Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him. Acts 10:34, 35
As we continue our study of the book of Acts, the focus now shifts back to Peter. One of the things Jesus had said to him while on earth was, “And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven…”Matthew 16:19. Among other things, many commentators write that this would mean that Peter would be the disciple who would be given the gift of opening the door to the kingdom of heaven by his Spirit-empowered preaching. Multitudes would respond (as we have already seen in Acts chapters 2-5) and enter the church, the kingdom of God on earth. While all the disciples were evangelists, the first few chapters of the book of Acts focus primarily on the preaching of Peter.
In Acts 10, we find the gospel being introduced to the Gentiles. In the verses preceding this chapter, we find that the gospel has been preached in Jerusalem, Galilee, Samaria and Judea (Acts 9:31) extending right up to the coast, thus fulfilling Acts 1:8.
